Alleged gangster to hear his fate in November

During Phumlani Nkosi’s previous court appearance, it was revealed he always carried a knife and community members feared him.

The murder and assault case against Phumlani Nkosi, reported to be a notorious gangster from Lindelani informal settlement, was postponed to November 22 for judgment.

Nkosi appeared briefly at a Pretoria High Court sitting in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court on October 13.

He faces three counts of murder and rape, two of assault intending to cause grievous bodily harm and robbery with aggravating circumstances.

The police arrested the 39-year-old on March 3 after the victims opened cases against him at the Benoni Police Station in 2011.

According to a court report, Nkosi allegedly assaulted a woman in her house in the early hours of March 25, 2011, and fatally stabbed Muzi Moletso when he tried to intervene.

He reportedly also approached Sabelo Mthimkhulu (now deceased) on December 6, 2020, and accused him of stealing his property.

Mthimkhulu denied stealing anything, and Nkosi then allegedly stabbed him with a knife.

A couple was walking home from a tavern on November 19, 2021, at about 23:00 when Nkosi, armed with a knife, approached them. He allegedly stole the couple’s cellphones and uttered threats of grievous bodily harm.

He allegedly stabbed the couple and took the girlfriend to another location to rape her.
