LETTER: Please can we cheer up Pauline Davis residents who have to do council’s work!
Their lift has been broken for years now and at that age they are climbing up to three floors to get to their homes.
Chantel Griffiths writes:
I am so absolutely disgusted in the municipality for not looking after our elderly.
My mom lives in Pauline Davis Court, council-owned flats for pensioners in Benoni.
They (council) never look after the units so, after numerous complaints and an insane outbreak of mosquitoes, the elderly took it upon themselves to clean the gardens.
My mom (69), her husband (70), who recently had a knee replacement, and and another resident (77), with a broken foot, cut the grass and started tidying up the garden.
I am so heartbroken by this insanity.
Their lift has been broken for years now and at that age they are climbing up to three floors to get to their homes.

Sometimes with their monthly groceries in hand – 96 stairs to be precise, I counted!
How heart-wrenching is that!
If anyone can contribute in any way or help with garden maintenance, a generator and petrol or even just some nice donations over the Christmas season, please contact my mom directly – Ria Riley: 074 657 9450.
They just need some love and special attention like all elderly do. Imagine this was your mom, your dad, your grandmother or grandfather.
Would you allow this for them?
