What are the facts?

Keith Gardiner of Farrarmere writes by email:

Your article of July 18, “Crime in Benoni is on a down slope”, refers.

May we see the figures that Col Thomas Maupa refers to in this article, please?

I live in Farrarmere (where he admits there is a problem) and crime is almost a daily occurrence: armed robberies and hijackings, break-ins and thefts, let alone the drug deals that go down on a daily basis on our streets.

While I sincerely appreciate the efforts of all who fight crime, I feel that the facts need to be published, so that we don’t become off guard and complacent.

What bothers me the most is the number of armed incidents that take place.

Where are all of these illegal weapons coming from, pray tell, and what, if anything, are the SAPS doing about it?
