I am in total agreement with the comments stated by both writers of the articles regarding the Wordsworth Road one-way.
I would like to state that these writers are not alone.
I live in Dalrymple Street, which has not only one educational facility, but three.
This road also becomes a one-way at certain time of the day and it can be utter chaos.
Not only do the taxis do as they please, but you have the parents and scholars abusing the directions.
To make matters worse, I have even seen the teachers of the schools not obeying the signs.
I, too, feel that there will soon be a serious accident, but do not understand why we have to wait for something to happen before there is any action.
I take every opportunity I have to speak and log complaints to all and sundry, to no avail.
I have contacted the schools to please remind parents, I have logged complaints on the EMM website that the signs are faded and have different times on them, I have stopped traffic officials whom I come across and the CPF, and phone the security companies to please help with the situation.
I just don’t see an easy resolution to this, but, note, I am well aware of the times of the one-way and I will be the woman following these.
If you happen to go the wrong way, please don’t expect me to move out of the way, as I will not.
And don’t try to show me rude hand signs, or even swear at me, or look at me like I am stupid and in the wrong (like some woman driver of a black BMW and the three cars behind her did one Friday) because I don’t care.
When you learn to read road signs and become responsible road-users, maybe you won’t be so frustrated.
To the traffic officials, obviously something is not working, so how about making a plan around the schools of Benoni, and sorting out this issue?
