I am currently researching my maternal grandfather’s family and have discovered that two of his brothers died in South Africa and, in particular, one in Benoni.
His death record (Alfred Ernest Edwards died June 15, 1954) indicated that he died (single – never married) while a resident of the “Transvaal Hotel, Van Ryn” and I was wondering if the paper has records of that era which would have his death notice or anything about him if he was a well-known public figure at that time?
I suspect that he probably worked as an engineer on one of the gold mines.
As my Irish grandfather died while I was quite young he didn’t talk much about his family.
Consequently, I would appreciate it if you could help me with this query.
