Tempers flare at bird sanctuary

Peter Bachtis writes by email:

Tensions have apparently heightened around the bird sanctuary, as Ms Mills expresses in her letter.

Strong words such as “stuff off”, used to shoo away the “elderly”, yet seemingly aggressive couple who have taken objection to her walking her loveable Labradors, without suitable leads.

The town elders and those who wrote the bylaws knew that this sort of altercation would happen at some stage and, like the Ten Commandments, they command us to adhere, or face the wrath of the council.

So here are some of the commandments:

Thou shall not walk thine pooches without a suitable lead … as they may inflict harm on the unsuspecting.

Thou shall pick up your pooch poop, place in a paper or plastic bag, and discard in a suitable bin.

Thou shall always respect the environment, including “elderly” cyclists who have taken you to task.

I recommend, as penance, that on one day a week you leave your pooches at home and spend an hour collecting other people’s doggy droppings.

Of course, I jest, and for the record … the two individuals who took you to task spend countless hours keeping this wonderful landmark free of rubbish, dumped by uncaring visitors to the sanctuary.
