As I walk around the local side streets of Benoni Agricultural Holding/Bredell, I see these lethal electric boxes everywhere.
They contain three phase 380 volts of live current and are often with no doors.
The electrical boxes are boundary boxes for the five-acre plots along the roadside and the responsibility of the municipality.
If anybody was to touch any of it, possibly a child, they would be electrocuted.

Editor’s note: The Ekurhuleni metro spokesperson, Themba Gadebe, said residents are encouraged to log a call with the call centre on 0860 543 000 if they see any electrical boxes that have been tampered with.
“There are about 32 000 electric boxes in Ekurhuleni which are attended to as and when they are found to be open. Tampering is mainly due to the theft of fuses or illegal connections; however, theft and vandalism is a challenge in Ekurhuleni,” he said.
