Memory Mugaza: I think they should have allowed them the opportunity to buy and keep. But because of health reasons and this current situation we are battling, it was hard for them to be allowed to buy any cigarettes.
The City Times asked people with regards to the uncertainty of when cigarettes will be sold again, should people have been allowed an opportunity to buy cigarettes for level four like they were allowed to buy before level five was implemented, and why?
Ntombi Khoza: They did a good thing by putting a ban on cigarettes, it consumes a lot of money and it is not good for your health. I wish they can tighten smoking laws even after the lockdown to save people’s lives.
Junior Sibanda: I think the ban is a little harsh. They should maybe give us a chance to buy some and avoid illegal markets that will later cost the economy. Some people cannot sleep without smoking, however, it was okay to put a ban since there is this virus.
Thandeka Khoza: I think they should have allowed them, some cannot cope properly without smoking. Some people use these products for various and important reasons, such as a herb used to communicate with the ancestors, “ukuphahla”, some people cannot do the important spiritual activities, they should maybe give them few days to buy the products.
