Bens win ‘ugly’ fixture

Old Bens Football Club's first team won 1-0 on Saturday, August 3.

Following a 3-2 loss in a catch-up game to Kempton Park FC, in the ELFA Super League Division 2 on Tuesday, July 30, Old Bens Football Club’s first team were looking to raise team spirits against Parktonians, on Saturday, August 3.

The teams squared up against each other at Currin Park, in what proved to be a ferocious encounter.

According to first team coach Dave Clarke, the match was a very difficult and physical affair.

“The opposition played very dirty and they put in a lot of bad tackles,” he said.

“Although we eventually won the game 1-0, it was one of those matches where you couldn’t wait for the whistle to end it.”

Despite the ugly nature in which the game was played, Clarke was pleased with the victory.

“We deserved to win this one as they had very few chances, but once again our finishing could have been better as a number of opportunities were missed,” he said.

The win keeps Old Bens in the top half of the table, with a few catch-up games still to be played.

The Old Bens second team also won on the day.

The team will next play OSA, away, on Saturday, August 10.
