Nienaber lies second in class

Jaycee Nienaber (18), a pupil at Hoërskool Hans Moore, who rides for the Manhand Shimwell Yamaha Racing Team, competed in the fifth round of the Senior Northern Regional Off Road Championship held on August 24 in Mareetsane District, near Mafikeng.

Nienaber was leading in the first lap, but got lost with two other riders on the motor vehicle racing route from the previous weekend’s race.

The riders apparently jumped a river crossing and in the process jumped over the markings which indicated that they should turn in the riverbed.

It cost him about ten to 12 minutes.

After lap one, he was in sixth position overall.

Despite the setback Nienaber remained determined and tried to make up time.

He made up over seven minutes, and won the OR3 class.

He also came third overall.

The Benoni rider is currently leading the OR3 class in the Senior Northern Regionals and has a comfortable lead in the overall non championship class.

Nienaber also competed in two Senior Nationals Off Road events in the past two months including the Bell 400 in Vryheid on July 20 and the Rysmierbult National on August 10 near Carletonville, where he placed second in both OR3 classes.

He is currently lying second in the Senior National Off Road Championship OR3 class.

This is his first year riding as a senior in the championship.

The next national event will be held in Ventersdorp on October 5.
