Old Bens win in Springs
Old Bens Football Club’s first XI celebrated a win in their ELFA Seniors Division Two League match against Gold 1 Aces FC at Olympia Park in Springs, on Saturday, August 31.
Fresh off a defeat to Olympia last weekend Bens were looking to bounce back.
The team did just that with a 4-2 victory over their Springs opposition.
First team coach, Dave Clark, who was critical of the officiating in last week’s encounter versus Olympia, said that the officials in the match against Aces were excellent and handled the game well.
“We had a few players missing in the team this week so did well to win the game,” he said.
“We had plenty of shots on goal and the game in general was pretty good to watch.”
Striker Lesiba Modau scored with his head while midfielder Jethson Cloete and striker Andrew Carter stretched the lead to 3-0 to the away team.
A lapse in concentration saw the Old Bens defence breached and Aces found the back of the net.
Wide midfield player Dumisane Chauke added a fourth for Bens later on while Aces found a late consolation goal.
The match ended 4-2 in the Benoni team’s favour.
Clark was upset that Aces could not field a reserve side to play against Bens’ second team and urged the ELFA to take a stand against teams that fail to pitch for games.
“This is not the first time that we have had teams not pitching for matches and this is totally unacceptable.”
