Cedars secure promotion

Benoni Cedars Football Club’s first team has ensured promotion to next year’s ELFA Super League after finishing as runners-up in the Seniors Premier League this season.

It is a step in an upward direction for the club, which was founded by Wesley White in 2009.

The team finished behind Spring Old Boys in the league table and the log could have looked a lot better for the Benoni team had they not been docked points following kick-off time miscommunications.

“It is a great feeling for us, as we are team that started from the very bottom,” said White.

He thanked everybody who has been involved with Cedars’ success this year, particularly Saleem Sheik, who has been a fervent supporter of the club throughout the founding years.

The first team will not be popping the celebratory champagne just yet, as they will be competing in the final of the ELFA Cup against Impala Park at Luso Africa’s grounds in Primrose on Saturday, September 14, at 2pm, and the club has urged its supporters to come out and cheer the team on.

Their spot in the final was secured after defeating Alberton in the semi-finals.

The victory was particularly impressive as they had a player sent off in the match.
