Another batting collapse

Following defeat against neighbours Benoni Northerns, on Sunday, November 9, Actonville Spurs Cricket Club's Premier XI were looking to bounce back from the derby day defeat with a victory over CBC Old Boys, at CBC College, in Boksburg, on Sunday, November 17.

Actonville won the toss and elected to field in a move that seemed to pay dividends as the club’s bowlers did a tremendous job with the leather and restricted Old Boys to 161/9 in their allotted 50 overs.

Henning du Plooy (34), Dylan Bennie (25) and Craig Parker (24) were the standout batsmen for the home team, while Xolile Nkomo bagged figures of 10 overs, with two maidens for 12 runs.

Other good bowling figures for the day for Actonville came from Imraan Manack 3/34 and Clayton August 3/46.

When Actonville went in to chase the modest total on a slow wicket, the opposition managed to hit the correct areas and the away side were four wickets down early in the innings.

Resistance with the bat came from Lafras Moolman (33) and Clayton August (25), who gave Actonville a glimmer of hope, but, like the week before against Northerns, a batting collapse occurred and they were bundled out for only 102 runs.

Craig Parker 4/21 and Jean Rossow 2/6 were CBC’s stars with the ball.

The coach, Thapelo Ditle, and his team had a long team talk after the game, regarding the batting collapse, and all the batsmen promised to improve and not underestimate any team in future.

The next fixture for Actonville is against Boksburg Cricket Club, at Lords’ Cricket Grounds, in Actonville, on Sunday, November 24.

n In other results for the club, a tremendous victory was had at Lords for Actonville’s Second League team against Daveyton.

Daveyton batted first and scored 202 in their 35 overs.

This game went down to the final delivery and Actonville emerged as the winners.

The victory places the team at the top of the league.

Actonville’s Third League team lost to Bakerton, while the Fourth League team lost to Boksburg.

On Sunday, the club’s Director’s League team lost to Springs Old Boys and the President’s League team experienced the same fate to Tsakane.
