Ebotse Parkrun celebrates 100th run
When Comrades legend Bruce Fordyce and Benonian Iain Morshead first hosted a Parkrun at Ebotse only six runners took on the 5km route.
Fast-forward to Saturday, May 24, 2014, and a record field of 685 runners turned up to take on the Ebotse Parkrun’s milestone 100th event.
Fordyce and fellow Comrades legend Alan Robb helped to celebrate on the morning, by taking part in the run and cutting the celebratory cake.
With over 90 000 Parkrunners now registered in South Africa, the 5km, timed events are growing rapidly around the country, as more and more people realise the fitness benefits that they create.
Fordyce praised the Ebotse Parkrun volunteer organisers, who go out of their way to make the weekly Parkruns a success.
Michael Pienaar stormed in as the winner on Saturday, in a time of 16 minutes and 26 seconds.
He received a prize from Emperors Palace, while the 100th finisher also received a prize.
The Ebotse Parkrun takes place every Saturday at 8am.
