Old Bens earn another threee points
Bens take the lead three times against Germiston City.

Coach Raymond Cloete’s Old Bens Football Club’s First XI travelled to Delville on Saturday, August 9, to take on the always competitive Germiston City in the ELFA Super League Seniors Division Two.
Old Bens are sitting in a comfortable position at the top of the table and a 3-2 win on the weekend further stretched their lead.
The first half started with Germiston playing some good one-touch football and dominating in the possession and territory statistics.
Bens’ goalkeeper Matthew Carter pulled off two excellent one-on-one saves to keep the visitors in the game and see the teams go into the halftime break at 0-0.
The second half started off similarly to the first but in the 49th minute the quick forward Kenny Masuku broke free and was brought down in the penalty area.
Bens were awarded the penalty and Eduardo Mendes brushed off the pressure to easily place the ball into the corner of the net.
Germiston also received a penalty kick not long afterwards after a strange call from the linesman.
Germiston converted to equal the score.
This forced Old Bens into life and they began dominating the proceedings.
In the 68th minute Cloete’s men were awarded a free kick just outside the box.
John Maseemo hit a low drive which deflected into the opposition’s net to put Bens 2-1 up.
The game evened out again and the team was made to reshuffle their defence following an injury.
Germiston pounced on this change and their winger drove home a shot from an acute angle into the top corner of the Bens net to level the scores for a second time.
The equaliser, however, spurred the visitors on and a wonderful defence-splitting pass from Lesiba Modau found Sunnyboy Mkwanazi in the box who calmly placed the ball into the corner of the Germiston goal.
With eight minutes left on the clock Bens were made to defend hard and eventually hold out for a 3-2 win.
“We showed our true colours by upping our game every time they scored,” said Cloete.
“With four games remaining in the league we are looking good but must just keeping taking it a game at a time.”
Goalkeeper Carter was named Man of the Match.
