Fun for a cause at Benoni City Times Golf Day
The Benoni City Times Charity Golf Day was a day of great fun in the name of charity.
A splendid spring morning greeted the golfers who took part at this year’s Benoni City Times Charity Golf Day, on Thursday, September 4.
As always, the BCT Golf Day, in conjunction with marketing partners Heypenni Gold, was a festive affair and the participants at one of the country’s finest links golf courses, Ebotse Links, were in a jovial mood ahead of the 11.30am shotgun start.
The day saw some excellent (and some not so excellent) golf on display, but the main aim of the game was to raise funds for the chosen beneficiaries: Project Feed the Children, the South African Guide Dogs Association for the Blind and the Rynpark Association for the Aged.
Hungry bellies were filled by Ebotse’s new catering service providers, Wiesenhof, while sponsors were based at locations along the course, to offer support, drinks and fun activities.
After a testing day of club-swinging a delightful dinner and prize-giving was held in Ebotse’s Katse Room, with the witty and smooth-spoken Jacaranda FM radio presenter and proud Benoni local Paul Rotherham as the master of ceremonies on the night.
Dinner consisted of a scrumptious chicken pie, with potato wedges and vegetables on the side for the hungry guests.

Gratitude for large donation
The Benoni City Times would like to thank Des Webster, of the Pro Shop Boksburg, and Peet de Wet, CEO of Ebotse Links, for their gargantuan contribution of R46 632 to the sum total of the funds raised at the City Times’ Charity Golf Day, on Thursday, September 4, at Ebotse Links.
The funds were initially raised at a golf day, organised by the Pro Shop and Ebotse Links, days after the Pieter Wessels Old Age Home in Dunnottar was burnt down in 2010.
These monies were gathered for the rebuilding of the home, which never occurred, and the funds remained idle in a trust for some time.
The Pro Shop Boksburg and Ebotse Links recently added this money to that raised at the BCT Charity Golf Day, and the Rynpark Association for the Aged was added as a third beneficiary, along with Project Feed the Children and the South African Guide Dogs Association for the Blind.
The total amount of money raised at the golf day is still to be finalised.
The money donated by Webster and de Wet from the trust fund is to be divided between the three benefiting charities.
“The Benoni City Times is incredibly grateful for this wonderful donation from the Pro Shop Boksburg and Ebotse Links to the grand total of our golf day,” said Hilary Green, editor of the Benoni City Times.
