Wickets tumble as Spurs lose opener
Actonville Spurs Cricket Club’s Premier League team got their 2014/2015 Easterns campaign off to a start a week later than the rest of the teams, on Sunday, October 12, away to Springs Old Boys.

This was due to the opening Premier League weekend falling over the Eid period.
The team’s original opening day fixture, against Duduza, was subsequently moved to Sunday, October 19.
Skipper Clayton August and his team travelled to Pollack Park in the hope of a good result in their first match, however, things did not pan out that way in Springs, on Sunday.
Bowling first, the Springs team amassed a total of 243 runs for the loss of nine wickets in 50 overs.
Jose van den Berg (76) and Mark Joubert (78) were the top performers with the bat for the home side, while Actonville’s Xolile Nkomo was the best of the bowlers, with figures of 3/44 in his 10 allotted overs.
Easterns semi-professional Imraan Manack was the next best bowler, with 2/50 in 10 overs.
When the innings changed over and Actonville’s batsmen stepped into the crease things started going a bit pear-shaped for August and his men.
Michael Enslin top-scored with 24 in a batting display where wickets regularly fell.
The team were bowled out for 129 runs in the 31st over, ensuring a large 114-run victory for Springs.
With the rest of the league enjoying a bye this weekend, Actonville will be hoping to turn their fortunes around against Duduza, at Lord’s Cricket Grounds.
The first delivery will be bowled at 9.30am.
- In other results, the club’s Director’s team suffered defeat to Benoni Northerns, while the club’s Fifth League team lost to Daveyton.
The Third and Second League teams enjoyed a bye, while the Fourth League had no games, due to the Friday night rains affecting fixtures.
