Eye on the target in Egypt
Marco Di Matteo (22), a Benoni resident, and Sandra Prinsloo, from Florida Park, represented South Africa at the 10th African Archery Championship and second African Open International Tournament, in Egypt, recently.
The pair won a silver medal in the Recurve Division mixed team event, during the 10th African Archery Championship, and a gold medal in the open division of the second African Open International Tournament, in the Recurve Division mixed team event.
At the same event, Di Matteo was individually ranked sixth of 24 international archers in the Recurve Bow Men’s class.
Di Matteo, the highest ranked male archer in the Recurve division, took up archery at the beginning of 2013 but has been shooting in Recurve Men only since April, this year.
It is a fantastic achievement for an archer to qualify for an international event in less than six months.
