Teams defeated in Nigel
All three of Benoni Rugby Club’s teams travelled to Nigel Rugby Club to play in that club’s pre-season Rugby Day, on Saturday, March 7.

Unfortunately for the Hoërskool Hans Moore-based club, their u-21, second and first XVs were all on the losing side.
The First XV looked a much better outfit to the one that beat Kempton Park in Delmas the previous weekend, however, they were defeated 18-12 by a Boksburg second team.
Benoni opened the scoring through Dirk Bloem, when he found space after a set-play on the halfway line.
The team stayed in the lead after a penalty and a try by hooker Tiaan Myburgh, on the stroke of half time.
At the start of the second half, Benoni seemed to protect their lead more than trying to capitalise on it, and this allowed Boksburg to come back into the game, scoring two tries in succession to win the game.
“There is still a lot of work ahead of us before the league starts in April, but it looks like some structure will soon fall into place,” said Steve Myburgh, club public relations officer.
“We need to establish solid combinations in the midfield and also to consolidate our front row, where we are misfiring a little bit.”
The club’s Second XV also suffered a defeat to Boksburg’s third side.
Prop Lourens Smit was the only point-scorer for the team, who lost 21-5.
The u-21 team came up against Sasol Secunda and also suffered a defeat (38-26), after a good run in recent weeks.
“Although leading the game 21-12 at half time, we let in two tries in quick succession after the break and we could not recover from this,” added Myburgh.
Flanker Anton Viljoen had an outstanding match in the loose and had a big impact on the game.
“The loss could just be the right medicine for this team going forward,” said Myburgh.
Tries were scored by Eugene Horn, Anton Viljoen, Jeff Gerall and Takkies van Staden, while Eugene Horn also slotted three conversions.
