Vale to climb the hill for hospice
National drifter and Lakefield resident Clare Vale will be tackling the Jaguar Simola Hill Climb in Knysna over the first weekend in May.
Her weapon of choice will be the Subaru #86BRZ, which should be ideally suited to the high-speed assault on the hill.
The BRZ is renowned for exceptional handling in standard form, and Vale’s car is far from standard.
It is fitted with a turbo installation by No Sweat Racing and fully kitted out for national drift competition.
The car is light and extremely quick.
The biggest challenge for the Black Art Racing Team will be getting sufficient grip and traction to overcome the car’s natural inclination to drift.
Fortunately, Continental Tyre SA has come on board and the #86BRZ will be fitted with ContiSportContact 5 tyres for the event.
The team is working closely with the tyre experts at Continental to develop the perfect set-up and they are confident that the car will give a good account of itself.
Vale will be also be competing as part of the Women’s Team, racing in aid of the Knysna-Sedgefield Hospice.
Team members are going all out to raise as much funding for hospice as possible, and donations may be made at the following safe, secure link: www.givengain.com/activist/156121/projects/12248/.
The Jaguar Simola Hill Climb event starts with a town parade on Thursday, May 5, with practice and Classic Friday taking place on May 6.
Saturday, May 7, sees the action heating up with practice and qualifying runs leading into the Big Shoot Out on Sunday, May 8.
“I have always wanted to do the Hill Climb, and this is the first year that our motorsport commitments have allowed us to take part,” said Vale.
“My little four cylinder Boxer #86BRZ is a real pocket rocket, and with the tyres to tame her drift I think the car will be extremely quick up the hill.
“This will be my first Hill Climb, so I know the lack of run-off will be daunting, but I am looking forward to the challenge and will give it my best shot.
“I will also be doing my best to raise funds for hospice.
“I have lost a number of special people to cancer and many of them found great comfort from the support of hospice.
“Please help me by donating to the fund – even the smallest donation does make a difference.”
