Lightning forces Old Bens draw

Lightning forced a premature end to Old Bens Football Club’s first team’s ELFA Super League away clash versus Zwide, in Katlehong, on Saturday, August 20.

The officials and coaches called the game off at 0-0 with about 15 minutes to spare after a lightning storm struck.

Old Bens coach Raymond Cloete said that the decision was taken with the players’ safety in mind.

Before that though there was not much electricity from a depleted Bens team who couldn’t find the back of the Zwide net.

“Their goalkeeper had a good game and kept us out on a number of occasions as well as saving a penalty about 10 minutes into the second half,” Cloete said.

His attention now turns to the famous “Benoni Derby” versus rivals Benoni Northerns at Currin Park on Saturday, August 27.
