Athletes rewarded for successful year

Benoni Northerns Athletic Club (BNAC) held their annual prize-giving, a hippie-themed event, on the night of Friday, November 11, at the East Rand Speedboat Club, at CR Swart Park.

Awards were presented to the following BNAC athletes:

• Most Improved Walker: Sarel Smith

• First walker man home at 50km Ultra Memel to Newcastle: Stephen Msimango

• First walker woman home at 50km Ultra Memel to Newcastle: Sonja van Leiden

• Walker of the Year: Esme McIlvin

• Walker Coach of the Year: Stephen Msimango

• Triathlon Trophy: Barry Gormley

• Trail Running (woman): Darienne Eigelaar

• Most Consistent Time Trial runner: Tracey Mcleod

• Most Dedicated Time Trial runner: Stephanie Gormley

• Trail Running (men): Greg Dawson

• Perseverance Award: Tommy Gibson

• Vasbyt Award: Fleming Adamson

• Unsung Hero: Jan Jordaan

• Most Improved Runner: Emma da Silva.

Comrades awards:

• First grandmaster male: Norman Milne

• First master male: Dieter Stapel

• First master female: Jacquie Mc Ilduff

• First veteran male: Shaun Winkler.

• First veteran female: Susan Masina

• Third female: Adele David

• Second female: Jacquie Mc Ilduff

• First female: Lauren Fisher

• Third male: Winston Smith

• Second male: Shaun Winkler.

• First male: Paul Pitco.

Prestige awards:

• Merit Shield: Charlotte Venter and Jenny Dawson (special mention of Mel Augustyn)

• Member of the Year: Dieter Stapel.
