Benoni kickboxing team extraordinary in their fights

The kickboxers brought pride back to Benoni.

The United Martial Arts International (UMAI) Benoni team shone brightly at the Top Ten Kickboxing Team Challenge 2018 in Kempton Park recently.

There were 512 athletes who entered this prestigious championship.

Twenty-four kickboxers represented the Benoni dojo.

The Benonian fighters won 62 medals and seven title belts in various categories such as semi/point, light continuous and kick-light fighting.

The winning team members were Jaylon Pillay, Uriah Pillay, Abdullah Hassan, Shamir Hassan, Ahmad Mahomed, Taahirah Cajee, Leila Latif, Salaamah Mahomed, Saood Razak, Rooknodien Cajee, Atish Mangal, Bradley Moodley, Safwaan Razak, Nazirah Hassan, Sufyaan Razak, Mariam Latif, Salmaan Razak, Omar Farouk Ebrahim, Ali Latif, Lameez Hassim, Saahirah Katz and Mahmood Mahomed.

The team coach was Sajida Mahomed while honoured guest kancho Allan Mahomed coached some of the UMAI Benoni team athletes.

The seven title belts winners were Mahmood Mahomed, Mariam Latif, Saood Razak, Ahmad Mahomed, Taahirah Cajee, Laila Latif and Salaamah Mahomed.

“The Benoni team were extraordinary in their fighting capabilities.

“Seven title belts are a great achievement for Benoni kickboxing,” said shihan Aslam Mahomed, chief instructor of UMAI and president of the African Union Region Five Kickboxing Confederation.
