LISTEN/READ: Action Netball IPT at the Benoni Action Arena draws the crowds for fast-paced sporting fun
It was a festival of indoor netball.
The first of two Action Netball Inter-provincial Tournaments (IPTs) took place at the Benoni Action Sports Arena and was a resounding success with capacity crowds, tough netball and goals galore from April 18 to 24.
Three hundred and fourteen open and mixed category matches were played across the men’s, women’s and mixed gender teams in both six-a-side as well as seven-a-side.
The non-stop action saw plenty of goals, misses, interceptions and all-round brilliance across the six days.
Action Sports general manager Ray Lourens said: “The popularity of indoor netball is on the rise, attracting superb talent across all formats and age groups.
“The umpires ensured fair play and allowed the capacity crowds to witness indoor netball that was fast-paced, intense and thrilling.”
The Secunda Action Sports Arena hosted the overs and unders age categories across the men’s, women’s and mixed teams from April 26 to May 1.
Action Netball ambassador and Spar Proteas star Erin Burger thoroughly enjoyed the Benoni tournament.
“The talent I witnessed at this tournament is outstanding and bodes well for the sport of netball to continue on its growth path.
“I especially love watching the men play as their agility and speed is something else.”
