Rynfield resident Claudia Kruger (17) is part of the South African National women’s ice hockey team that recently went to Bulgaria to compete in the Ice Hockey World Championships, where they won their first world title.

The determining game for the gold medal was between Belgium and Romania.

If Romania had won, South Africa would have taken silver.

The South African team secured the gold, which means they qualify to compete in division two this year, in a host country, which will be announced in May.

Kruger has been playing for the South African National team since 2017, where she was and still is the youngest member on the team.
