“One of our missions at Benoni Northerns is to maintain being the prime NPO sports club in the East Rand, and it is crucial for us to band together in the spirit of crisis management to help ensure that we come through this stronger than before and continue to create a quality environment,” explained Glenda Todd, secretary of the club.

“Expenditure at present, where cash flow is king, has been strictly controlled, but we are doing our best to ensure that we come through this massively frustrating period.”One of the most difficult situations we are in at present has been to ensure that our staff are paid and, thankfully, we have been able to continue doing this.”

As some of the lockdown regulations have been relaxed, Northerns has been as creative as they are allowed and now have their famous pizzas on sale, which can be collected or delivered, and, additionally, offer an off-sales service during the week, which is also on a collection basis.

“We have introduced all the safety protocols and santising standards in preparation of social responsibility and in preparation of people collecting at our premises.”Once we reopen, all these will continue for the safety of our members, staff and the public,” explained Todd.

She added that while every day is a challenge due to the level of uncertainty and stress created by lockdown, the Northerns team are glad that they are able to offer some services until normal operations resume.

“We encourage the public to support us by buying a pizza so that we can keep our club going.”It has been a very trying time for all and extremely difficult to remain positive over this period, but we believe that there is light at the end of the tunnel.”Once the regulations are lifted and some sense of normality is gained, we believe that our fields and facilities will soon be ‘unlocked’.

“We hope to see you all soon,” concluded Todd.
