Local football team ecstatic to receive new kit

Pizza, cold drinks, new kits, laughter and fun, these young boys could not be more grateful.

The City Times recently did an article on the Black Poison FC team based in Daveyton, as they requested donations and sponsorships towards kits.

Their newly met superheroes from Liquormart Liquor Northmead donated such items – and more.

“The donation came about from one of our employees, Vincent Banda, who wanted to contribute something to the team,” explained Ricky da Silva, manager of Liquormart Liquor Northmead.

“He asked us if we could help him with any donations and so we reached out to family and friends who kindly and anonymously donated to the cause.”

Liquormart then decided to match the donations so that Banda could afford to buy the boys full kits.

The donations consisted of:

• 30 shirts

• 30 shorts

• 30 socks

• Goalkeeper gloves

• 10 soccer balls

• Two coaches shirts

• Two captain armbands

• Two whistles

• Two kitbags

• 30 satchels (a bag carried on the shoulder by a long strap and closed by a flap)

“As we are a small family-owned store it’s not always easy to contribute to such causes, but with the help from all of our employees and friends, we managed to achieve our goal.

“We all felt amazing doing something to help out these underprivileged boys,” said da Silva.

On the day of the handover, Liquormart invited all the boys to Roman’s Pizza and they each got their kit along with a cooldrink and a pizza, kindly donated by a close friend of the liquor store who wishes to remain anonymous.

Banda has also offered to assist with coaching the boys when he can.

“Hopefully the rest of the community can get behind them and help achieve their goals of joining a league,” concluded da Silva.

Luleka Zamantlane Tala, the assistant coach and mother to an u-13 player of Black Poison FC, expressed her appreciation for the support.

“Thank you so much for our soccer kit from Liquormart. The boys were so happy and grateful for their pizza and amazing new kits. Thank you so much to Liquormart and to the City Times for assisting us in asking for help. God bless you all.”
