Locals shine at second CGA meeting
The third meeting is on February 4 at Germiston Stadium.
Brentwood Park resident Lythe Pillay claimed a gold medal in the senior men’s 200m event at the CGA track and field’s second meeting at Germiston Stadium on January 21.
Running in the colours of the University of Johannesburg (UJ), the 19-year-old world 400m U20 champion won his heat after clocking 21 seconds. He was followed in second place by teammate Nhlanhla Maseko while Mozambican Kalanga Francisco Deve completed the podium.
Despite the persistent heat, it was another day of entertainment with some incredible performances as the goal for the athletes is to make the team to represent the province at the ASA track and field championship in March.

Boksburg Athletic Club’s Seth Agliotti shone on the field after winning the boys’ U16 high jump with a leap of 1.70m to claim a gold medal.
The 14-year-old beat his only competition, Juvan Nel from HSRB whose 1.50m leap was not enough to earn him first place.
Agliotti’s club-mates Donovan Jansen van Vuuren, Jade Doran and Tobi Mosweu also claimed podium positions in their categories.
Jansen van Vuuren claimed a silver medal in the men’s U18 400m hurdles while Doran was third in the girls’ U16 1 500m, finishing in a time of 05:19:45.

Mosweu claimed a silver medal in the women’s U18 100m after storming to the finish line in 12.77 seconds.
It was another victorious event for the Benoni High Athletic Club duo Kaitlyn and Matthew MacKay.
Kaitlyn claimed a second-place finish in the girls’ U16 3 000m, crossing the line in 11:19 while Matthew also finished second in the men’s U20 5 000m, an improvement from his third-place finish in the same event at the first meeting on January 14.
The third meeting is on February 4 at Germiston Stadium.
