Bowlers raise money for a cause
Benoni Country Club Bowls Club recently hosted the Muriel Brand Cerebral Palsy Bowls Day, in aid of the Muriel Brand School in Brakpan, and Vita Nova Centre in Springs.
Muriel Brand makes provision for children with physical and specific learning disabilities, and Vita Nova is a home for people with mental disabilities, cerebral palsy and HIV/Aids.
The annual event, which has been held at the club for close on 40 years, has become a popular social event and about 146 bowlers graced the club’s three greens in support of this year’s cause.
The event, held in memory of Muriel Brand, was organised by a committee headed by Andy and Chris Greenwood (Benoni Country Club Bowls), Gary Brown (Benoni Country Club Bowls) and Yvonne van Wyk (Gauteng Cerebral Palsy Association).
R150 000 was raised for the schools on the day.
The committee thanked all the sponsors, including Altrisk, who helped to make the day a tremendous success, as well as the women from the Gauteng Cerebral Palsy Association, who assisted with the catering.
