Afro Soul artist Bheki Nene, better known as Urban, aims to mend broken souls with his latest single, Ndim lo, which means “Here I am”.
The single was released on May 17 and will be available on digital platforms at the beginning of June.
He is currently promoting the single and the album, The Messenger, which is set to be released in September.
“On the album, listeners can expect an afro-soul sound with a bit of house,” said Urban.
“The message on the album is motivational, so when you listen to every song you will be inspired to pick yourself up and face any challenges that come your way.”
Urban said we have all experienced disappointment, failure, unfulfilled promises and rejection in life; however, at some point we have to get up and continue fighting.
The Daveyton resident said he has been creating music from a young age and nurtured his talent by getting involved in community activities such as singing and dancing.
He was first introduced to the music industry at the age of 16 when he joined the Soweto Gospel Choir.
In 2010, he joined the Tshwane Gospel Choir as a choreographer and director.
Urban said it took him ten years to make the album because of the lack of funding; however, he didn’t give up.
“I will always be grateful to the people who believed in my craft and helped me to create this album.”
He told City Times that he has worked as a backup artist for well-known artists like Lira, Vicky Vilakazi, Yvonne Chakachaka and Thembisie Mtaka.
As part of his social responsibility, Urban is working on a campaign called “We Brothers” with the purpose of rehabilitating and restoring ex-offenders.
“The campaign helps them to re-establish their careers and prepares them for when they go back to their communities,” said Urban.
The single will be available on all digital platforms towards the end of June.
