Palesa excells at Peermont Hotel School

Why just complete a course when you can do it in style?

Daveyton resident Palesa Sihlangu made Benoni and Peermont Hotel School (PHS) proud on July 17 when she not only graduated as a waitron, but was also named Trailblazer of the Year.

Sihlangu, along with 133 other Ekurhuleni youngsters, graduated from the world-class training institution funded by the Peermont Community Benefit Trust, at Emperors Palace’s Red Roman Shed.

She completed the four month course and received the City and Guilds floating trophy for being the top waitron student in the school’s mid-year graduating group.

Since 2016 the school, through a CSI initiative of Emperors Palace, changed the lives of over 780 local youngsters by giving them theoretical training in various aspects of the hospitality industry.

They were also offered the chance to gain practical insight into vital roles within the industry.

In keeping with Peermont’s efforts in providing a sustainable future for the youth in the Ekurhuleni area, the Peermont Community Benefit Trust is once again offering fully-funded skills programmes to successful candidates at the Peermont Hotel School based at Emperors Palace.

Successful candidates must be available for the full four months as the course is a combination of school-based training and practical training at Emperors Palace.

To be considered for a sponsorship, an applicant must meet the following requirements:

• Be between the ages of 18 and 25

• Interested in becoming a chef, waitron or housekeeper

• Permanently reside within Ekurhuleni (for at least the past year and a proof of residence will need to be provided)

• Passed matric

• Be fluent in English (verbal and written) with a minimum pass rate of 50 per cent

• Hold no criminal record

• The total household income of the applicant must also be less than R8 000 net per month to be considered.
