Mr Benoni’s first prince a musical model who wants to teach the youth to be selfless

The Benoni CBD resident added that he grew up not judging anyone based on the colour of their skin.

The City Times met with the Mr Benoni’s first prince Lincoln Siziba (25), who described the experience as“excitingly extravagant”.

“I made new friends and what made it more special was the unity between all races – skin colour was not an issue at all.”

Why did you enter the pageant and was this your first time?

I was initially looking for an acting agency when I found Rampage.

Debbie Moore, co-director at Rampage, encouraged me to enter and … people have told me that I look like a model. I also wanted to try something new. Yes, this was the first time I entered. I attended rehearsals and competed with people who have been doing pageants for years.

Would you try again to take the title home?

I would try again, but not only to win but for the experience. It was an eyeopener because I am a vocalist with a passion for music, and now I am a model too.

What do you think you could have done differently?

I should have sang to Nomusi Mabena who was one of the judges, to showcase my vocal talents as I have been on South African Idols, and sang on YFM.

What was the highlight of the pageant for you?

When I was chosen as first prince. I was excited and shocked.

What are your plans during your reign?

I would like to create awareness about mental health, and encourage the youth to do something that they don’t think they can do. I was laughed at for being fat when I was younger, and bullied because I was not born in South Africa, and was forced to face dark times. I want to encourage youngsters not to discriminate and to learn to be selfless.
