Hospice East Rand Tree of Memories ceremony held

As the night progressed and loved ones were honoured and remembered with songs and the lighting of candles, the atmosphere in the auditorium was filled with peace and unity.

Residents gathered at the Northfield Methodist Church to remember their lost loved ones at the Hospice East Rand Tree of Memories ceremony on November 16.

The Welsh Male Voice Choir and the St Francis College Senior Choir took turns and rightfully serenaded the crowd, singing songs of hope and love, to which the crowd responded in great applause.

Hospice East Rand chairperson Con Roux reminded guests that life is too busy and it is necessary to stop and remember our loved ones.

The senior minister at the Northfield Methodist Church, Louise Wernich, shared a story of a boy who was attacked by a crocodile, which reminded attendees that the memories of our loved ones have the potential to inspire pain, but they also have the potential to remind us of love.

Hospice East Rand administration manager Brenda Bisschoff said the Tree of Memories has been held for at least 20 years now and the first one was held at the Benoni City Hall.

Bisschoff thanked all their hospice donors for always remembering their loved ones and giving them hope for the future.

The Welsh Male Voice Choir and the St Francis College Senior Choir concluded the evening by leading everyone in singing the South African national anthem.
