Deputy Minister joins eThekwini mayoral race

IFP rallies behind Mkhuleko Hlengwa as the mayor of eThekwini for the November 4 Local Government Elections.

On Monday, the IFP announced that it was rallying behind longstanding member and parliamentarian, Mkhuleko Hlengwa. He is the party’s current national spokesperson and Deputy Minister of Transport.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Community Development, and he completed a postgraduate certificate in governance and leadership at Wits University.

“I am honoured to accept my nomination as the IFP mayoral candidate for eThekwini. I accept this responsibility with humility and a firm commitment to serve our people with integrity, restore service delivery and rebuild trust in our city,” said the former IFP Youth Brigade president.

Other eThekwini mayoral candidates include Haniff Hoosen (DA), Zwakele Mncwango (ActionSA), and Hlengiwe Mkhaliphi (EFF). The ANC’s eagerly awaited candidate reveal has taken a different route.

The party unveiled five names for the running, namely current mayor Cyril Xaba, former KZN Premier Nomusa Dube, current speaker of eThekwini council Thabani Nyawose, MP Mina Soma-Lesoma, and MLP Maggie Govender.
