DA announces Haniff Hoosen as mayoral candidate for Durban
The DA made the announcement in Chatsworth on Friday.
THE leader of the Democratic Alliance John Steenhuisen has announced Haniff Hoosen as their mayoral candidate for the city of Durban.
The nomination was announced on Friday after Steenhuisen gave a speech to residents in Chatsworth.
Joined by DA KZN leader Francois Rodgers, Steenhuisen said he believes that under Hoosen’s leadership, the party will restore dignity to the neighbourhoods, invest in townships, light the streets, fix water and sewerage systems, and make this city work for all its people.

“This election is not just another contest. It is a choice between collapse and renewal. Between corruption and accountability. Between chaos and competence. Between decay and dignity. Between building and breaking,” said Steenhuisen.
At the event Hoosen accepted the nomination and said it was an honour to be put forward.
“It is an enormous privilege to take the lead in this movement that is going to bring change to the people of this beautiful city. It is a responsibility which I do not take lightly,” he said. “I want to thank the leadership of our party and to express my deep gratitude for this honour.”
Hoosen has served in Parliament as a Shadow Minister, and has been a constituency head to thousands of people across this City. “Ihave dedicated my life to serving you. It is a call that gives purpose to my life, and energy to my body every day.
“I want you to envision with me a different City and a different Metro. I want us together to chart a new way forward, where the gains of freedom and equality will see a City delivering services to all residents, and will mean that everyone has an equal foundation. A metro that delivers on the basics, fairly, for all people.”
Hoosen is also the former provincial chairperson of the DA in KZN, a position he held for more than eight years.
Prior to joining the DA, Hoosen was the secretary general of the Independent Democrats and played a pivotal role in the merger between the ID and the DA in 2010.
He is married to Sharon and is a father of two.
