DURBAN High School (DHS) retained the boys’ high school title at the 2026 Kearsney Hockey Fives, overcoming Hilton College in the final to claim the trophy for the second successive year.

The tournament featured 25 teams, seven boys’ high school sides, six girls’ teams and 12 primary schools, with ideal playing conditions adding to an action-packed weekend.

DHS’s triumph was particularly impressive after the side suffered a pool-stage defeat to Hilton. They turned the tables when it mattered most, producing a strong performance in the final to finish ahead of Hilton, with hosts Kearsney College third.

Westville Boys’ High finished fourth, followed by Glenwood High, Michaelhouse and Ashton College Ballito. In the girls’ section, Our Lady of Fatima claimed their first Kearsney Hockey Fives title after edging past St Mary’s DSG in the final.

St Mary’s had gone unbeaten in the pool stages, including a victory over Fatima, but could not repeat that result when it counted. Curro Hillcrest finished third, followed by Danville Park Girls High, Ashton College Ballito and Maris Stella.

The primary school division provided several entertaining encounters, with Chelsea Primary producing a strong set of results.

Bonisanani Primary was recognised for its team spirit and marked improvement since first participating in the event in 2016. The weekend showcased the growing talent and enthusiasm for the fast-paced five-a-side format.
