Police nab suspected car thieves
Crime Prevention officers recovered two stolen vehicles in a vehicle check point operation in Morningside.

BEREA police Crime Prevention Unit were on patrols on Friday night when they managed to corner would-be car thieves who were caught in a VCP (vehicle check point) near Blackhurst Avenue.
According to Communications Officer, Lieutenant PN Naidoo, Captain Thomas and his team of crime prevention members held the mini road block to make sure petty crimes would not go unnoticed. “At the roadblock they noticed a vehicle being abandoned vehicle and saw two suspects get of the vehicle and go into another vehicle which was waiting across the road with a driver.”
The police members recovered the abandoned vehicle then later noticed the same three suspects driving towards another police roadblock near Florida Road.
“They were stopped and two of the men tried to jump over the wall of Bankok Wok. Both the vehicles recovered had false number plates. One was stolen from the Berea area and the other was stolen from the Point area,” said Naidoo.
The car had car breaking implements including torches, screwdrivers, spanners, pliers, knives, allan keys, starters as well as other car keys.
After fingerprints were taken of the first vehicle, it was returned to the owner by crime prevention members.
