Cameras focus on Umbilo footbridge
Councillor works to try reduce crime in Umbilo Park.
WARD 33 by-election candidate, Nicole Graham met with officials at the Department Management offices last week to raise concerns over the number incidents that have occurred over recent years on the footbridge at Umbilo Park.
Graham pointed out that the Umbilo footbridge cameras are too far from the bridge to effectively monitor crime on the bridge.
“You can only see people exiting the bridge and that is unlikely to give enough evidence to secure a conviction for crimes committed on the bridge. I am going to motivate for the camera to be moved to face into the park and be close enough to monitor the bridge and a bit of the park,” she said.
She said Ben Madokwe, the new Umbilo CPF chairman would request crime stats from SAPS and work with her to try to reduce crime in this area.
