Milestone surgery for St Augustine’s

St Augustine's Hospital staff celebrated the 100th gastric surgery at the hospital last week.

LAST Tuesday will mark the 100th bariatric procedure done by the Du Toit and Funnell practice at St Augustine’s Hospital.

According to general manager of St Augustine’s Hospital, Dr Augusta Dorning, bariatric surgery is a life-changing experience.

On 6 August the hospital conducted its 100th bariatric procedure at the hospital and celebrated the event with a small function in recognition of the dedicated team of nurses and doctors who serve such patients.

“The hospital is the first KZN centre to celebrate such an achievement and also the first centre to provide a monthly bariatric support group for patients who have had the surgery,” she said.

Another name for bariatric surgery is gastric surgery, and is performed for weight loss in obese patients.
