Berea police have been working hard to bring crime down in the area with successful arrests.

Municipal bin used to carry stolen goods
Members of Berea police Crime Prevention Unit noticed and stopped two suspicious men walking along Trematon Drive pushing a green municipal bin last Tuesday, 27 August.
“Police searched them and found the bin filled with metal pieces as well as a metal insert for the municipal water inspection meter cover. They asked the suspects to show them where they had taken the metal from and discovered they had broken the cement and bricks to get to the metal insert. The bin was stolen from a business in the CBD,” Lieutenant PN Naidoo, spokesman for Berea police said.
The men were arrested and charged for theft and suspected stolen property.
Intruder arrested
A Berea policeman together with officers from a scurity company carried out an arrest on Vause Road at 7.20am on 29 August.
A security company contacted the Berea police after receiving a complaint on Thursday morning.
Berea Communications Officer, Lieutenant PN Naidoo said both the security company and police responded to the home where the alarm had been activated. “When police arrived the suspect was still on the premises. He started jumping from wall to wall along the properties on Vause Road in an attempt to escape,” he added.
The suspect managed to force open a garage but later realised the police were on his tail and tried to escape through the ceiling but was caught by police as he tried to escape through the roof.
He was charged for housebreaking with intent to steal.
Man arrested for theft of road sign
On Thursday afternoon, 29 Augustm Berea police crime prevention members were on patrol in St Thomas Road when they noticed a man trying to steal a metal road sign. The suspect was immediately arrested and charged for theft.
Berea police recover 4×4
Berea police crime prevention members were on patrol in Musgrave when they recovered a White Toyota Fortuner in Vause Road.
The officer located the vehicle with the assistance of a tracking unit to a garage in a Vause Road complex. “Upon further investigation, it was established that the garage belonged to a woman who was home on the day. She was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle,” said Lieutenant PN Naidoo.
Theft out of Motor vehicle
Berea police arrived in the nick of time to assist a man who had his car broken into and gym bag stolen last Thursday in Holden Avenue.
“The crime prevention members noticed the man chasing a suspect down the road. He said his car was broken into and red gym bag was stolen by the suspect who was running away with it. The members managed to chase and arrest the suspect and return the stolen item to the man,” said Lt PN Naidoo.
