Charges withdrawn against one of rugby five

Charges against Grant Cramer, one of the five men charged with the assault and death of Brett Williams after a Sharks match earlier this year have been withdrawn.

CHARGES were withdrawn yesterday against Grant Cramer, one of the five men involved in the brawl after a Sharks and Rebels match earlier this year in which former Royal Marine Brett Williams was killed. Cramer had been charged with assaulting Williams.

The trial against the other accused, Blayne and Kyle Shepard, Andries van der Merwe and Dustin van Wyk will resume in the regional court before senior magistrate Trevor Levitt in March 2014.

Yesterday Levitt warned the four accused that if convicted they faced between 15 and 25 years imprisonment. He told them there could be no suspended sentence or fine. The accused are facing a charge of murder and three charges of assault and one of crimen injuria which relate to alleged assaults on security guards.
