Two arrested in Florida Road shootout
Two robbers were quickly apprehended by quick thinking security after robbing a DJ on Florida Road in the early hours of Sunday morning.
TWO men were promptly arrested in the early hours of Sunday morning, 13 October, after an armed robbery in Durban’s popular nightlife hub, Florida Road.
According to Berea SAPS Communications Officer, Lieutenant PN Naidoo, the armed robbery occurred at the corner of Florida Road and Ninth Avenue at around 4am on Sunday morning. “The complainant was carrying cds, earphones, flash drives and cash and walking towards his residence when he was approached by an armed man wearing blue jeans and a white t-shirt,” said Naidoo.
The robber was accompanied by another suspect who demanded the victim give them all his belongings, luckily Enforce Security officers on patrol saw the incident as it happened.
Anthony Feuilherade, Director of Enforce Security said one of his reaction officer’s chased the robbers after seeing them pull a gun on a local DJ as he was leaving one of the clubs. “Our officer chased and shot at the one suspect who had pointed the firearm at the officers and tried to flee. They arrested the suspects with the help of the UIP and Berea SAPS who were also called to the scene,” said Feuilherade.
“One of the suspects was slightly grazed by a bullet. All the property was recovered and returned to the owner and both men were charged for armed robbery,” said Naidoo.
After the incident police recovered the suspect’s firearm and discovered it was a replica pistol.
