Safety Forum meets

Bulwer Community Safety Forum will have their next crime meeting on Tuesday, 12 November and invite all members of the public to attend.

THE Bulwer Community Safety Forum, invites the community to its next community meeting on Tuesday, 12 November at 6.15pm at the Glenwood Community Church Hall, 115 Bulwer Road, Glenwood.

Chairman Heather Rorvik said the forum incorporates a neighbourhood watch, which has meetings on every second Tuesday of each month.

The area the forum covers is from King Dinuzulu Road (Berea ) to Alan Paton Road (McDonald Rd) and South Ridge to Sydney Road.

“The main focus of the forum is to address the scourge of prostitution, vagrants, crime and grime in our area. By tackling these problems, we will address the falling housing prices in our area,” said secretary Louise Stehouwer.

The forum’s activities include regular weekly foot patrols where they interact with the community. “On our walks we would like to encourage people to come out of their homes and chat to us. On our vehicle patrols we concentrate on crime, as well as vagrants and prostitutes. The presence of our patrollers is a definite deterrent to criminals,” added Stehouwer.

The forum welcomes all men and women and encourage all concerned to join. “The only requirement is that you are over 18 years of age. If we can swell the ranks of the patrollers, we will be able to do it more often, and also create a roster to make it less onerous on the existing volunteers. We need to take our streets back from the criminals and only if we, as a community, stand together and do if for ourselves, will we be successful,” said Stehouwer.
