Cops pounce on suspicious trio

Three would be car thieves were stopped in their tracks by Berea crime prevention members that observed them in action before arresting the trio.

THREE men were arrested on Thursday afternoon, 21 November by the Berea Crime Prevention members for possession of car breaking implements.

According to Lieutenant PN Naidoo, Communications Officer at Berea SAPS, the team were conducting observation in the Cowey Road area when they noticed the suspicious trio.

“While on crime prevention duty they saw the three suspects loitering around cars in Cowey Road. The team followed them all the way to Clarence and Avondale Road where they stopped and searched them.”

One of the men was found in possession of a car breaking implement, a recovered Chevrolet car key which was being used to try and gain entry into cars through remote jamming. “The suspect claimed that he had found the key. He, together with his two accomplices, were arrested for possession of car breaking implements,” said Naidoo.
