Notorious gang arrested
Members of a notorious gang responsible for hijacking, armed robbery and rape in Durban and surrounding areas were arrested last Friday by members of the Phoenix Cluster Crime Intelligence.
A notorious gang of six wanted for numerous hijacking and armed robbery cases as well as abduction and gang rape around the Umbilo, Mayville, Pinetown and Verulem areas, was arrested by members of the Phoenix Cluster Crime Intelligence and Umhlali K9 Unit on Friday, 22 November.,
The six suspects aged between 24 and 26 were arrested at Ndwedwe, Isipingo and Durban Central for the crimes committed in November.
Police spokseman Captain Thulani Zwane said, “Two VW Polos were taken in Mayville, an Opel Corsa was taken from Umbilo, a Kia taken from Pinetown and an Audi A4 taken from Verulam. In one incident a young woman was hijacked of her vehicle by five suspects in Parlock.”
The gang allegedly abducted the woman and one of the suspects raped her on their way to Ozwathini. Two of the other men raped her before dumping her and withdrawing cash from her account.
Members received information which led to the arrest of the suspects who were charged for armed robbery, hijacking, unlawful possession of an unlicensed firearm, abduction and rape.
