Teen Samaritan stabbed to death

A teenager on holiday in Durban was fatally stabbed to death after chasing down a mugger.

POLICE are calling for anyone who witnessed the brutal stabbing of 17-year-old Nathan van Reenen in Walter Gilbert Road in the early hours of Monday morning after he rushed to the aid of a woman who was being mugged.

According to reports, Van Reenen, who is believed to be in Durban on holiday from George, was sitting in a vehicle with friends at about 2.35am when they witnessed a woman being mugged by a man on Walter Gilbert Road. The teen rushed to help the woman and her attacker fled. Van Reenen chased after the man and caught up with him, but the man pulled out a knife and stabbed the teenager in the neck.

He was rushed to hospital but died later. Police are looking for the woman who had been a victim of the mugger. She vanished after the incident and did not open a case at the police station. Police are also calling for any other witnesses to come forward with any information that could help them track down and arrest the killer.
