Victim comes forward to help police find teen’s killer

The mugging victim Nathan van Reenen rushed to help has come forward and is working with police to find his killer.

DURBAN Central detectives are working with the Durban woman teenager Nathan van Reenen attempted to help as she was being mugged outside a nightclub at the weekend. The 16-year-old holidaymaker, who had arrived from George only hours before, spotted the woman being mugged and ran to assist. The mugger fled and Nathan gave chase and caught the man who pulled out a knife and stabbed him in the neck. Nathan was rushed to Addington Hospital where he later died of his injuries.

According to reports the woman responded to an appeal calling for her to come forward by Private Investigator Brad Nathanson on his Facebook page. She had only learnt of Nathan’s death on Monday morning via a news report on the radio. She also contacted police and is working with them to apprehend the man who mugged her and stabbed Nathan.

The woman told police she was waiting for a taxi outside the nightclub when she was approached by the man who grabbed her and snatcher her phone from her back pocket and ran. She chased after him but gave up and resigned herself to the fact that she had lost her phone.

According to Nathanson, the woman was still very traumatised and was inconsolable over the phone as she felt to blame for the teen’s death.

Newspaper reports quote Nathan’s brother Luke as saying the family did not blame the woman for what had happened to Nathan.
