Zothile Chiliza received 82% in IsiZulu, 85% in English and 86% in Life Orientation. Ward 40 Councillor Dumisani Ngema said he was proud of the achievements of the students. “In previous years KwaMashu was known for its anti-social behavior. However, the achievements we are witnessing here have completely changed this perception and we are now rated amongst the best achievers in the country.” Ngema wished the pupils the best of luck in their future endeavours and said he had no doubt they would be good ambassadors of the City wherever they went. He pledged that the Municipality would continue to support all students to ensure they have a brighter future. The Municipality’s Head of Parks, Recreation and Culture Unit, Thembinkosi Ngcobo, said the celebration was not about good results, but hard work. “You are a blessing and your brilliant minds will benefit this country greatly,” he said, thanking the pupils for embracing the Municipality’s vision and flying the Durban flag high. School Principal, Sipho Magwaza, thanked the teachers of the school for their hard work and dedication in ensuring they produced quality results. He appealed to business people to offer financial support to all matric students who had done well to enable them to further their studies. “Most of our students are from disadvantaged backgrounds. When they do well and are able to further their studies and progress in life, this motivates the younger ones to also want to do better,” he said. Sanele Mdlalose will pursue a career in Actuarial Sciences at the University of Cape Town. Simphiwe Sibisi and Zothile Chiliza will be at the University of KwaZulu-Natal to study Accounting and Law respectively.
