Quick response leads to arrest
Team work by Umbilo SAPS, Glenmore Community Watch and Metro Dog Unit leads to the arrest of two thieves.
METRO Dog Unit members were involved in the arrest of a thief on Sunday 19 January.
At 2am, thieves arrived in a bakkie to steal two motorbikes from a home in Glenmore. The home owner heard a noise and on investigating, saw two men on his property.
On the way out he pressed the panic button and asked a family member to call 10111.
He realised that his motorbike was stolen and saw a man running out of the property, he gave chase and further down the road saw a bakkie facing his direction loaded with his motorbike. The bakkie driver reversed which caused the motor cycle to fall off. One man got out of the vehicle and ran off.
Umbilo SAPS and the Metro Dog Unit responded. Umbilo SAPS arrested the driver of the van. His accomplice who had run away, was later arrested in the nearby bushes by the Metro Dog Unit members and police dog, Koster. The Glenmore Community Watch assisted the officers in apprehending the men.
