Schoolgirl raped
Umbilo SAPS urges children to come forward if they have been raped or abused at school.

UMBILO SAPS were called out on Friday night after a 13-year-old girl did not return home.
According to Sgt Beverly Manqele, the teen’s father reported a case of abduction as there was a rumour that the child was seen driving away with a man.
“The officers worked tirelessly day and night, and eventually found the girl at a friend’s house not far from the school. The case of abduction was false. The child was taken to SAPS Umbilo Victim Support Centre where she was interviewed in a safe homely environment,” she said.
“The victim alleged that she had been repeatedly raped by a member of staff during school hours. “The man had sent a girl to class to call the victim twice on different occasions and while at the office he forced himself on her, raping her and telling her that he loved her. She fought him by biting his hand but he was too strong, and it did not help. The victim was brave at the end as she reported this matter to us. The victim received the necessary care she needed She was taken to hospital to have DNA evidence collected and to receive medical attention,” said Sgt Manqele.
A case of rape is being investigated. The man was arrested on 17 February by the Brighton Beach Cluster FCS officers.
“All children are encouraged to report sexual abuse to the police. A school is not a place where learners get harmed in this manner, and this office is committed to helping all learners who find themselves in this horrible type of situation,” she said.
